Trust Me

It is ironic that I have complete trust in the ability of my chair to support my body weight whenever I sit on it.  However, furniture does wear out after continued use over time. It is not until the legs of my chair give out and I fall to the ground that I begin to contemplate repair or replacement. As soon as the chair is fixed or replaced I again trust in its ability to support me despite what I just experienced. God never gets worn out or broken, so why is it that I don’t have that kind of trust in God’s ability in all areas of my life to hold me up? When faced with sickness my first thought isn’t always to pray and trust God for my healing, but instead worry about what the sickness could be. When funds are low in my bank account my first inclination isn’t always to praise God for the blessings I have and trust Him for the resolution of this problem, but to wallow in pity and sorrow wondering if this truly is my lot in life. Trust is advance hope in one’s ability, character, and nature to do what is expected.  As a Christian, trusting God means to do the following:

1.      Agree with God about His identity.

2.      Completely relinquish all understanding about the situation based on His sovereignty and His ability to rule and execute wisdom.

3.      Resist the urge to try and regain control over the situation.

4.      Wait for Him to act on our behalf.

Read: Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV “5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

So the next time your faced with a situation and God says, “Trust Me,” remember God’s promises to you and confidently know that He will fix any problems you may have if you allow Him to.  Be encouraged and God bless you.

Alone In My Misery

Have you ever felt that no one could possibly understand what you are going through? You may be physically surrounded by people but the inner turmoil you experience has you feeling isolated and full of despair. Have you tried to take your mind off of what you were worrying about only to find yourself thinking about it more intensely? It is so easy to get sidetracked and lose focus on what’s really important.  There will be times when those closest to you will not be available, when once perceived friendships diminish, and disappointments seem to loom. However, despite the external circumstances God is always concerned about you and what you are going through.

I am currently in a season in my life where I have to constantly remind myself of God’s presence because I feel as if I’m in a deep valley with very few people around me. In Lamentations 3 the writer totally identifies with this. Matter of fact he doesn’t sound like he is in a valley but a deeply dug out pit. In verses 1-20 he speaks of his affliction and he sounds pretty hopeless. However, in verses 21-24 NIV it says,” 21 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: 22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Remember you are never alone (Hebrews 13:5), and with each new day there is hope because God’s mercies are new each and every day. Stay encouraged and God bless you.
